About FAQs

What makes Kurtz Bros. a leader in Ohio's landscaping industry?
Kurtz Bros. has been a leader in Ohio's landscaping industry since 1948, earning that position through over 75 years of innovation, growth, and unwavering commitment to quality. As the largest beneficial reuse company in the entire state of Ohio, we operate at a scale and level of expertise that few competitors can match. Our leadership spans multiple dimensions: we manufacture the finest topsoils, mulches, and composts using proprietary resource management techniques; we maintain distribution centers across Northeast Ohio including Akron, Avon, Broadview Heights, Garfield Heights, Hudson, North Canton, Painesville, Stronsville, Willowick and Valley View, plus locations in Columbus ; and we employ in-house soil scientists who develop engineered soil blends for complex construction and stormwater applications. Our product catalog includes over 200 items spanning landscape materials, hardscapes, tools, natural stone, and winter supplies . This combination of family tradition, technical expertise, product breadth, and statewide reach is what has made Kurtz Bros. Ohio's go-to landscaping supplier for professionals and homeowners alike.
How has Kurtz Bros. supported Ohio's environment over the years?
Since 1948, Kurtz Bros. has been a pioneer in caring for Ohio's environment and natural resources through innovative waste-to-resource practices that divert materials from landfills and transform them into beneficial products. Our environmental support spans multiple programs: we process yard waste collected from homeowners, contractors, and municipalities into compost and soil amendments rather than allowing it to contribute to water pollution and flooding. We produce recycled aggregates from reclaimed concrete, brick, and roadway materials, reducing the demand for virgin quarry resources. Our sediment solutions program helps cities and watersheds manage sediment as a resource rather than a disposal problem . We design and install green infrastructure systems that filter stormwater pollutants at the source, protecting Ohio's lakes, rivers, and streams. And we lead sustainable landscaping practices across the state by prioritizing natural, organic materials and educating both professionals and homeowners on environmentally responsible land management.
What makes Kurtz Bros. different from other landscaping suppliers?
What makes Kurtz Bros. different is that we're not just a supply yard; we're a vertically integrated environmental services company that manufactures, processes, and delivers our own products while also providing consulting and commercial services that no typical landscaping supplier offers. Most suppliers simply resell materials. Kurtz Bros. produces its own topsoils, composts, and engineered soil blends using in-house soil scientists and proprietary waste-to-resource processes. We're the largest beneficial reuse company in Ohio, meaning much of what we sell is created through sustainable recycling of organic waste, construction debris, and sediment. Beyond products, we offer full commercial services including environmental consulting, stormwater management, erosion control, and waste management auditing. Our delivery fleet operates up to 6 days a week with professional drivers across most of Northeastern Ohio. And with roots going back to 1948, we bring generational knowledge and long-term community relationships that newer or national-chain competitors simply cannot replicate.
What role does Kurtz Bros. play in environmental conservation?
Kurtz Bros. plays a direct, hands-on role in environmental conservation across Ohio through programs that protect waterways, reduce landfill waste, restore degraded land, and promote sustainable landscape practices. Our waste-to-resource model is foundational: we intercept materials that would otherwise fill landfills, including yard waste, construction debris, biosolids, and sediment, and transform them into usable products like premium compost, recycled aggregates, and engineered soils. Our green infrastructure programs design and install systems like bioretention cells, rain gardens, and permeable surfaces that filter stormwater pollutants before they reach Ohio's waterways. Our sediment solutions help municipalities and watershed districts manage sediment buildup without costly, disruptive dredge-and-dispose methods. We also support conservation at the consumer level by offering sustainable landscape products like organic mulch and compost that improve soil health, reduce chemical dependency, and support biodiversity in residential and commercial landscapes, learn more here.
Can municipalities partner with Kurtz Bros. for environmental projects?
Yes, municipalities across Ohio have partnered with Kurtz Bros. for decades on environmental projects ranging from stormwater management and sediment control to green infrastructure installation and community yard waste programs. We work directly with city engineers, public works departments, watershed districts, ports, and planning agencies to develop and execute programs that meet regulatory requirements while delivering measurable environmental benefits. Our sediment solutions help cities move beyond expensive traditional dredge-and-dispose methods by intercepting and beneficially reusing collected sediment. For stormwater compliance, we design, manufacture, and supply engineered soils for bioretention systems, rain gardens, and other green infrastructure installations that meet Ohio EPA specifications . Municipalities also utilize our yard waste drop-off and processing programs to provide residents with convenient, environmentally responsible organic waste disposal.
